OYA Update

Update

It’s been a while since our last update, so we thought it was about time that we let you know what’s been going on in Oblate Youth Australia (OYA)! The National Coordinators recently gathered in Victoria for a weekend of meetings and planning, for the many exciting things coming up in the year of youth!

Time was spent reflecting on the future of OYA and the roles of service within the community. Each of us is called to share their particular gifts to make OYA the unique community that it is. After some discussion and reflection, the current nationals invited Jason D’Rozario to be a part of the National Coordination Team. Jason accepted, and we thank him for his generosity for taking on this particular role of service.

The meeting was extremely productive in reviewing past events and how we can improve on them in the future. In December last year, a group of us travelled to Sydney for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival. ACYF was the largest gathering of young Catholics in Australia since World Youth Day in 2008, and it was great to celebrate our faith with thousands of other young Australians.

ACYF particularly inspired us musically, which really added to the experience of the National Oblate Youth Encounter in January. NOYE was once again very successful, and our largest group of participants in a number of years! Groups from WA, QLD, SA & VIC gathered together in Healesville to share our faith and charism. Photos and video updates from NOYE have now been shared on our Facebook page!

Work is currently being done on a new website, and the new site will be up and running in July, and launched at Re-Encounter. Re-encounter will be held on the 13th-15th July at Mazenod College, VIC. It is a chance for us to once again gather together, and it allows us time to plan for the future of OYA as a community and to maintain the friendships and sense of community formed at NOYE.

It’s hard to believe that we are already discussing and planning for NOYE 2019 and info for all of our upcoming events will be available closer to the dates.

SAVE THESE DATES!
13th-15th July 2018 – Re-Encounter in Melbourne
3rd-6th January 2019 – NOYE in Melbourne

I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind you all that OYA and the National Coordination Team are always willing to help out and share our resources and knowledge, so if your local community needs some support, please feel free to get in touch.

Finally we will be keeping you updated as much as possible on Facebook and Instagram, so make sure you follow us! If you have any questions or want more info, please feel free to call the Oblate Youth Office on 03 9795 5077 or email oya@oblates.com.au.

Thanks,
Emma
